How do I filter and configure my analytics view?

Filters and time settings let you control what data the Message Analytics dashboards display. You can scope your view by time period, account, channel, country, and direction, and adjust chart granularity from hourly to monthly. Filters apply across all chart views on the active dashboard.

Beta notice: Message Analytics is currently in beta. Features and data presentation may change before general availability.

Explanations

Which filters are available across all dashboards?

The following filters are available on every Message Analytics dashboard:

Filter

What it does

Time period

Sets the date range for the data shown

Account

Scopes data to a specific account or sub-account

Channel

Limits data to one or more messaging channels (e.g. SMS, WhatsApp Business, RCS)

Country

Filters by destination country (outbound) or origin country (inbound)

Direction

Filters to outbound (sent) or inbound (received) messages only

What granularity options are available?

Granularity controls the time interval used on the chart's horizontal axis:

  • Hour — one data point per hour; useful for short time periods (1–7 days)

  • Day — one data point per day; suitable for periods of 1 week to 3 months

  • Week — one data point per week; useful for medium-term trend analysis

  • Month — one data point per month; best for long-range views (several months to 2 years)

If you select a very long time period (e.g. 2 years) with hourly granularity, the chart may be slow to render or the data may be automatically aggregated to a coarser granularity. Choose the granularity that matches your analysis scope.

Do filters persist when I switch dashboards?

Filter persistence behaviour during the beta may vary. As a general rule, verify your active filters each time you switch to a new dashboard to ensure the data scope is what you expect.

What is the maximum historical data range I can query?

You can query up to two years of historical data. The earliest available data point depends on when your account's data was migrated into Message Insights. If your account was recently activated or migrated, historical data may not yet extend the full two years.

Configurations

How do I set the time period?

  1. On any Message Analytics dashboard, locate the time period selector in the filter bar — typically shown as a date range picker.

  2. Click the selector to open the date picker.

  3. Set your start date and end date.

  4. Confirm the selection. The dashboard refreshes with data for the selected period.

For quick selections, look for preset options such as Last 7 days, Last 30 days, Last 3 months, or Last 12 months if available.

How do I apply multiple filters at once?

  1. Open the filter bar on any dashboard.

  2. Set each filter you need — for example, Channel: SMS, Country: Germany.

  3. Filters combine with AND logic: the dashboard shows data that matches all active filters simultaneously.

  4. To remove a filter, click the × next to its value, or reset all filters using the clear/reset option in the filter bar.

How do I change chart granularity?

  1. On any dashboard, locate the granularity selector — typically shown as a button group (Hour / Day / Week / Month) above or near the chart.

  2. Click the granularity level you want.

  3. The chart updates immediately. Table view rows also change to reflect the new interval.

How do I set my timezone?

Timezone is set globally and applies to all dashboards. See the Configurations section of What is Message Analytics in Message Insights? for the timezone setting steps.

Examples

Example 1: Isolating inbound SMS traffic for a specific country last month

You want to see only inbound SMS messages received from the UK in April 2026. In the filter bar, set: time period: 1–30 April 2026, direction: inbound, channel: SMS, country: United Kingdom. Set granularity: daily. The Traffic dashboard now shows only UK inbound SMS, one bar per day.

Example 2: Comparing two channels over six months at monthly granularity

You want a high-level comparison of SMS vs. RCS traffic from November 2025 to April 2026. Set the time period to 1 November 2025–30 April 2026, set breakdown: channel, and set granularity: monthly. The stacked bar view shows six bars, each split between SMS and RCS volume.
