The Traffic dashboard shows the volume and composition of your message traffic over time. Use it to understand how many messages you sent or received, broken down by channel, country, and direction, and to spot trends across your messaging activity.
Beta notice: Message Analytics is currently in beta. Features and data presentation may change before general availability.
Explanations
What metrics does the Traffic dashboard display?
The Traffic dashboard surfaces the following:
-
Total message volume — the count of messages processed within your selected time period and filters
-
Breakdown by channel — for example, SMS, WhatsApp Business, RCS
-
Breakdown by country — destination country for outbound, origin country for inbound
-
Breakdown by direction — outbound (sent) vs. inbound (received)
-
Custom groupings — depending on your account configuration, you may be able to group by additional dimensions such as sub-account or campaign label
What chart views are available?
You can switch between four views on the Traffic dashboard:
-
Spline chart — a smooth line chart, useful for seeing trends and rate of change over time
-
Stacked bar chart — shows volume segments (by channel, country, or direction) stacked per time interval; useful for comparing composition across periods
-
Table view — raw numbers per time interval and dimension; useful for precise values and export preparation
-
Globe view — a world map with country-level traffic indicators; gives an instant geographic overview of where your traffic is concentrated
The globe view is a read-only visual summary. Apply country filters in the filter bar to drill into a specific country's data in the chart and table views.
How far back can I view traffic data?
The Traffic dashboard supports up to two years of historical data. Use the time period filter to set your start and end date. For granularity options (hourly, daily, weekly, monthly), see How do I filter and configure my analytics view?.
Does the Traffic dashboard include both sent and received messages?
Yes. Direction is one of the available filter and breakdown dimensions. By default, the dashboard shows all traffic. Filter by direction: outbound to see only sent messages, or direction: inbound to see only received messages. Not all channels support inbound — if a channel does not, inbound data will simply show zero for that channel.
Configurations
How do I switch chart view?
-
Open Message Insights and navigate to the Traffic dashboard.
-
Locate the view toggle above the chart area — it shows icons or labels for Spline, Stacked Bar, Table, and Globe.
-
Click the view you want. The chart updates immediately without losing your current filters.
How do I break down traffic by a specific dimension?
-
On the Traffic dashboard, locate the breakdown or group by selector (typically shown above or beside the chart).
-
Select a dimension: Channel, Country, or Direction.
-
The chart and table update to show a separate series or segment per value within that dimension.
You can combine a breakdown dimension with active filters. For example: filter to SMS only, then break down by country to see SMS traffic per destination country.
Examples
Example 1: Comparing channel volumes over Q1 2026
You want to know how SMS and WhatsApp Business traffic compared across January–March 2026. Open the Traffic dashboard, set the time period to 1 January–31 March 2026, select granularity: monthly, and set breakdown: channel. The stacked bar view immediately shows that WhatsApp Business overtook SMS in February and held that position through March.
Example 2: Identifying which countries drove an inbound spike
On 14 March 2026, you notice an inbound traffic spike on the globe view. You filter by direction: inbound, set the time period to 13–15 March 2026, and switch to the table view. Sorting by volume shows that the spike originated from messages received from Brazil and Mexico, both on SMS.
Example 3: Monitoring daily traffic during a high-volume campaign
Your team is running a 5-day promotional campaign (6–10 April 2026) sending SMS to the Netherlands. You open the Traffic dashboard, filter by channel: SMS and country: Netherlands, set the time period to the campaign window, and select granularity: daily. The spline chart lets you monitor whether daily volumes match your send schedule and flag any unexpected drops.
