Edit transformation

How to update a transformation

As data evolves, there may be instances where definitions are updated or deleted. Handling these changes thoughtfully is crucial for the continuity of data operations and for maintaining data integrity.

A basic transformation cannot be 'transformed' into an advanced transformation

Handling updated definitions

An updated definition in the CXP signifies changes that might include added or removed fields. Such updates can enhance data handling and provide richer insights but needs users' attention to align their transformations with the new structure.

When a definition is updated, an info banner is shown in the affected transformations. This banner informs users about the update, ensuring that they are aware of new changes and any actions required.

Important to keep in mind is that your transformation will keep working in it's old version, so no immediate business impact.

Simply click the update button and your definitions will be reloaded based on the latest version and you can add any new property mappings if needed.

Handling deleted definitions

You cannot delete definitions that are still in use (have linked transformations for example), we show a dependency list which is blocking you from deleting the definition for system reliability and continuity reasons.

Make sure you first update the dependencies accordingly before being able to delete the definition. Clicking refresh will get the latest list of dependencies, so you cankeep track of what still needs to be adjusted.

When you have resolved all your dependencies you can click on the refresh button and you will get the confirmation to delete the definition.

Versioning

Versioning in definitions is a powerful feature that allows you to update definitions without causing disruptions to your business operations. Whenever a definition is updated, a new version is created. Typically, such updates would require simultaneous modifications to related transformations, potentially leading to interruptions. However, with versioning, the current transformation continues to function seamlessly with the old definition. This means you have the flexibility to update your transformations at your own pace, without any immediate pressure. This approach ensures smooth operations and facilitates continuous improvements without impacting the stability of your processes.

This is supported for both basic and scripted transformations.
