Get CDP data

Get CDP data looks up a record in your Customer Data Platform and makes it available to later steps. Use it to find a customer by an identifier, such as an email address, before checking their details or sending a campaign.

You can use this step in conversational tools and automation workflows. Your account needs CXP (CDP v2), and you need permission to view its configuration.

Set up the step

  1. Add Get CDP data from Get information in the step picker.

  2. Under CDP object, select the type of record you want to find.

  3. Under Key, select the identifier to match, such as the record's email address.

  4. Under Value, select the parameter or variable that contains the identifier for this run.

  5. Under Select output variable, choose where to store the record.

The key belongs to the selected CDP object. If you change the object, select its key again.

What to expect

The step stores the matching CDP record, including its identity and data, in your output variable. Later steps can use that record. For Send campaign, select the whole record as the CDP entity.

If no record matches, the output is empty and the flow continues. Add an If / else branch to handle this before a later step tries to use the record.

If the lookup fails, check the object and key, then the value supplied during the run. An unavailable CDP connection or an invalid value causes the step to fail.

Technical reference

The lookup value must resolve to text or a whole number. No match returns null.

If the output variable is contact, the record's properties are under contact.data. For example, contact.data.email reads an email property named email. Use the property names configured in your CDP.
