Trigger workflow starts a workflow in your account's automation workspace from a conversational tool. Use it for work that can continue after the customer has received a reply, such as a later follow-up.
The conversation continues without waiting for the workflow to finish. Its result does not return to the conversational tool. If the agent needs the result for its current answer, do that work in a conversational tool.
Set up the step
-
Create the workflow in your automation workspace.
-
Define the input parameters it needs, such as an order number or customer identifier.
-
Open the conversational tool that should start it.
-
Add Trigger workflow from Take action in the step picker.
-
Under Workflow, select the workflow to start.
-
Under Parameters, assign the values the workflow needs from the conversational tool.
-
Publish the automation workspace.
-
Publish the conversational profile containing the tool.
The selected workflow must belong to the same account. Use Open workflow to inspect it in a new tab. If you change the selection, check the parameter assignments again.
What to expect
A successful step means the workflow has been accepted to run. It does not mean that the workflow has finished successfully. The tool continues with its next step, and this step has no output variable.
Review the workflow's result under Analyse in the automation workspace. Its run links back to the conversation that started it. A run appears after it finishes or pauses, which can take a few minutes.
If the workflow has not been published, HALO blocks publication of the conversational profile that uses it. If you have saved newer workflow changes, live runs keep using the published version until you publish the automation workspace again.
If the step cannot start the workflow, check the selected workflow and its required parameter values. Missing required values cause this step to fail.
In the debugger, Trigger workflow checks the target and parameter values without starting a workflow. Test the workflow separately to inspect its steps.
To reuse one automation workflow inside another and use its result, use Run existing workflow.
